Domain authority is a term commonly mentioned by most elite content marketing champs. In this post, therefore, we will be killing two birds with one stone; we will provide an answer to ‘what is DA?’ And later on, discuss some 7 easy hacks that you can use to raise your domain authority score.
What is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority is a metric score that takes into account different website parameters to predict the probability of a website to rank on a search engine. Domain Authority can range from 1-100.
Domain Authority (DA) is a term that was developed by Moz.
But, DA is occasionally confused with Page Authority.
Page Authority (PA) is more specific to how individual pages rank on search engines, unlike DA, which takes into account the probability of the entire Domain.
So, how do you know if you have a good domain authority score?
A quick reminder, domain authority score is a metric that spans from 1 – 100.
To easily categorize it, let us break it down into four;
- Poor (0-20)
- Good (20-30)
- Average (30-50)
- Excellent (50-100)
But, do not get it twisted; it is not a one day task. To move from a domain authority score of 1 – 50 requires effort and patience. Later on, I will give you some tips that you can use to improve your domain score steadily without getting penalized in the long term.
That said, to determine a websites domain authority, a couple of factors are put into account, these are;
- Site’s Content Quality And Posting Frequency.
- Site’s Optimization For Search Engine Rankings.
- Number Of Backlinks.
- Quality Of Backlinks.
- Site’s General Popularity.
By understanding how each of the above plays a role in raising your Domain Authority score, you can focus on the real work and grow with time.
That said, here are the 7 hacks that I recommend, to instantly start seeing a rise in your domain authority score;
1. Raise Your Domain Authority Score By Creating Link Worthy Content
Content is an important aspect of the growth of a site. It is a determinant of the amount of traffic you receive and the rate at which your domain authority grows.
Ensuring that you post high-quality content that is both engaging and informative will go a great way in reducing the amount of time it takes you to reach that DA score that you have always aimed at.
Nowadays, most answers provided on the web are almost similar.
Therefore, it is upon you as a content creator to go further and research in-depth for upcoming posts to stay at the top in terms of quality content provision.
By doing so, you are likely to outrank other sites for that similar keyword, which will result in more traffic that is likely to turn a few visitors into potential links later on.
This way, you will raise your domain authority score. Although no immediately, this is a great way to earn you multiple links in the long run.
2. Focus On internal linking Too
Internal Links or inbound links are the links joining several pieces of relevant content together to form a stretch of relevant information.
This type of link is just as important as the external link.
The better you are at interlinking, the better you are at providing a great user experience for your visitors.
By enabling easy navigation for your visitors from one piece of content to the other, you are able to send positive signals to search engines.
These kinds of positive signals are among the many aspects search engines consider in ranking your content.
Therefore, interlinking like a pro will in better rankings, higher search traffic, and even increase the chances of you receiving more backlinks.
Although this will not directly raise your domain authority score, it is still a great way to ensure you are giving your visitors the best kind of experience possible, both on mobile and pc.
3. Obtain High-Quality Links From Relevant Sources
Where your backlinks come from and where they are situated on the referring domain is another determinant of how fast or slow your site authority will grow.
In-content kinds of backlinks are the best for anyone looking to receive the most out of a single Backlink.
Having, or rather focusing on gaining backlinks only from high domain authority sites will not only go a great way in improving your domain authority but also your page authority score.
This is especially a good thing when it comes to search rankings and content competition with similar sites/content.
Choosing to receive backlinks from authoritative sites will give your site a sense of authority if done right. This will then raise your domain authority score.
If done correctly, it is also a great way to increase your traffic.
4. Raise Your Domain Authority Score By Promoting your Brand
How well you promote your brand will greatly affect how well and fast you raise your domain authority score.
The more people you are able to reach, the better.
Brand promotion is especially important as it is a great way to showcase your worth.
Therefore, the more you let people know about your content, the more likely they are to interact with your content.
This, on its own, will not raise your domain authority score.
Promoting your brand while at the same time ensuring all we have discussed above are accounted for will charge you in the right direction.
The more you participate in brand promotions, the more likely you are to stand out and build a sense of authority to your readers. It is also a great way of letting your competitors know you exist.
5. Pay Attention To Your On-Page SEO

All these come together to form a site with a high level of relevancy to specific keywords, which will slowly be the reason your domain authority rises.
On-page SEO, when done appropriately, will affect your site’s performance and authority positively with time.
You only need a little bit of patience to see it work out.

7. Remove/ Disavow Low-Quality Links
Backlinks are not all the same. Some are of high quality and, some are of low quality.
Both links affect your domain authority score differently.
While the high-quality kind of link affects your site positively (raise your domain authority), low quality links actually harm the health of your site and will affect your site negatively.
Ensuring that you inspect your backlinks now and then will go a great way in improving your Backlink quality.
Remove all low-quality links now and then. Also, make sure to retain all the quality links.
For you to raise your domain authority score, you will need to have some patience.
Because raising your DA score is both time consuming and a little bit tricky.
It is not a day’s task, not a week’s task, and neither is it a month’s task.
Also, keep in mind that content is king. If you keep providing high-quality content, the rest will fall into place.
But, do not get it twisted because everything else matters.
Therefore, focus on your content and the general SEO. And, you will raise your domain authority score eventually.
